Like University Heights, Justin is a collection of beautiful contradictions. He is the son of a mother whose family arrived on the Mayflower; and a father who arrived over 350 years later from his small West African country to study in 'this land of opportunity.' Justin received his undergraduate degree from one of the most conservative universities in the nation, and actively celebrates and uplifts Cleveland's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community as President of the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland's board of directors. He is a courtroom trial attorney who has represented the State of Ohio and government of the United States while prosecuting violations of local, state, and federal law; and has also worked as a member of the EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant Institute board to find and implement lower-cost commonsense solutions to reducing crime and improving our communities.
Justin believes that when citizens work together to solve their problems our community is safer, happier, and more beautiful. He worked to create and fund a neighbor-to-neighbor mediation program to help facilitate difficult conversations and settle disputes in our community when they arise.
As a federal attorney and prosecutor, Justin holds people and companies accountable when they mismanage money and violate our financial laws. He has also advised nonprofit executives on ways to maximize their budget dollars to increase community impact. He offers a watchful, responsible eye on our tax dollars.
From University Square to the Wiley school property, our community has some difficult decisions ahead. Justin has represented governments and their citizens his entire professional life. He won’t shy away from challenging conversations; but also understands nuance, and the need to compromise to build consensus. Those are skills that will keep our government moving forward productively for all of us.
Justin directs investigations, bring charges, and leads prosecutions when criminals commit violence, threaten terror, or sell poison on our streets. He has worked collaboratively with law enforcement and first responders at the local, state, and federal levels and will use those skills to keep University Heights, our institutions, and our families safe.
